Safe and Beautiful Sunless Tanning (Spray Tan)

Sunless Tanning also known as UV-free tanning involves the use of lotions and sprays that contain DHA. DHA the active ingredient in "fake tan"  is short for Dihydroxyacetone (C₃H₆O_{3 ). DHA does not dye, stain or paint} but causes a chemical reaction with the amino acids in the dead layer on the skin surface. It is a safe alternative to UV tanning and usually last between 4 to 10 days.

One of the preferred way of getting a sunless tan is to get it airbrushed on. There are many professional machine that can apply this evenly and usually takes less than 5 minutes. The older system also only sprays you once in the front and once in the back. This type of spraying leaves unwanted results. The Newer Mymyst System  walks you through the spinning motion while spraying you four times for a more even tan. When applied properly, it does last twice as long as the old system. Due to the high price of the Newer systems, most tanning salons in Huntington Beach opt for the older system. Here are some tips before, during, and after your mystic tanning process.

At home you should shower and exfoliate. Do not use any lotion or oil on your body. Your skin should be clear of anything that may prevent it from absorbing the DHA. When you arrive at the tanning salon for your mystic spray you should follow the instruction of the tanning salon representative. There should also be directions posted on the wall just in case you do not remember all the steps. After the first time you will become accustomed to the steps and preparation. The individual cartridges does have an oily smell to it. Although it is faint and most people do not mind it. Some people may be bothered by this smell. The tanning salon should be able to provide you with a scent additive that will completely turn the oily smell to something refreshing such as Vanilla Crème, Desert Bloom or Coconut Lime. There are also additives for an instant bronzer due to slow reaction process of DHA usually 3-4 hours. When using the bronzer additive make sure you wear loose fitting clothing as the added additive may temporarily stain your clothing.

Some of the things you should keep in mind before tanning. First, if you have long hair make sure you tie it up so that no hair is hanging down your neck and back. The hair may create unwanted tan lines. When you put on the hair net, make sure the front part of the hair net goes on top of your hair line. If you put it below your forehead you will create a line across your forehead when the color shows up on 3-4 hours. Apply the blending creme on your hands and top of your feet. You should wear the foot covers to prevent the bottom of your feet from being discolored. The foot covers are however not necessary. Don't be afraid to ask the tanning salon staffs. They are there to answer all your questions and help you with the process. The Mymyst System will talk you through the entire process. On the floor there will be 4 numbers labeled 1 through 4. The automated voice guidance will ask you first to put your left foot on 1 and your right foot on 3. Then it will count down "Spraying in 3 2 1". After the first spray it will ask you to move your left and right foot again and repeat the count down. The machine will move you 4 times and spray you 4 times. You should stand with your arms out and to the side forming a "M" shape with your body.  When it ask you to exit you can use the provided towel to lightly damp your body. You should never wipe your body down. The fine mist sprayed will get absorbed by your skin very quickly. You will see results in 3-4 hours. Do not shower or wash yourself for at least 5 hours. Most of the color will show up within 3-4 hours while the full color shows within 24 hours. Keep your skin moisturized and away from harsh chemicals that may dry out your skin to make the sunless tan last as long as possible. Typically people will keep most of their color 5-7 days. With the Mymyst System you will notice that when you start to lose color, you lose it in shades instead of blotches or spots.
